Amanda Blake was born on February 20, 1929, in Buffalo, New York, United States. Her parents Jesse and Louise named her Beverly Louis Neill when she was born. Kate Barry was her ancestor for whom Blake placed a portrait in the history museum in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Before pursuing an acting career, Blake worked as a telephone operator.

Blake was married four times in her life and sadly all of the marriages ended up in divorce. Don Whitman was her first husband whom she married in 1954 and divorced in 1955.
