Billy Beane was born as William Lamar “Billy” Beane III on 29th March 1962 in Orlando in Florida in the US to a military family. He was raised in Mayport, Florida and San Diego, California. His father was a naval officer, and he taught Billy how to pitch.

After high school, Billy Bean began his career as a baseball player for New York Mets. Although Stanford University had offered him a scholarship, Billy Beane turned it down. He continued playing as a professional baseball player. As a reserve outfielder, Billy Beane struggled for many seasons playing for Mets, Twins, and Tigers. Finally, during the 1990s season, Billy Beane decided not to return.
