Billy Beane was born as William Lamar “Billy” Beane III on 29th March 1962 in Orlando in Florida in the US to a military family. He was raised in Mayport, Florida and San Diego, California. His father was a naval officer, and he taught Billy how to pitch.

Billy Beane studied at Mt. Carmel High School in San Diego. He played and excelled in baseball, basketball, and football for his high school team. His high school coach recommended him to play varsity baseball team. He batted .501 in his sophomore and junior years of high school. Yet, his average batting dropped to .300 by his senior year.

Billy Beane left playing football for fear of getting injuries. Yet, Stanford University recruited him on joint baseball–football scholarship as the quarterback. Later, John Elway, the then-sophomore replaced him for the Stanford Cardinal football team.

After high school, Billy Bean began his career as a baseball player for New York Mets. Although Stanford University had offered him a scholarship, Billy Beane turned it down. He continued playing as a professional baseball player. As a reserve outfielder, Billy Beane struggled for many seasons playing for Mets, Twins, and Tigers. Finally, during the 1990s season, Billy Beane decided not to return.

Billy Beane became a reserve scout for the Oakland Athletes. He worked and got promoted to the position of General Manager of the team. As a GM, Billy Beane trained a competitive team in fielding on a very tight budget.
