He was born on 9th September in the year 1930 in La Grange in North Carolina. He spent his childhood in Greensboro. He is the son of Fred Lucas and Mahalee. He entered into the crime world when he saw the death of his twelve years old cousin who was murdered by Ku Klux. He kept working as a pool hustler and remains involved in some petty crimes before he met Bumpy Johnson who was a famous gangster.
