Henry Thomas had early exposure to Hollywood as he started his acting career at the age of eight. His debut role was Harry in the 1981 film Raggedy Man. He then played the role of lonely 10-year-old Elliot in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in 1982. While filming the movie, Thomas suffered mental trauma after his pet dog was killed by a neighbor’s. The public reaction troubled him. After the film, he returned to Texas to focus on school.
He took on film and TV roles intermittently. Thomas, later on, made a comeback to acting in the 80’s and 90’s, appearing in notable films such as Suicide Kings in 1997, All the Pretty Horses in 2000, Gangs of New York in 2002, and The Last Ride in 2011.
Besides acting, Henry Thomas is also a musician. In the 1990s he wrote songs and played the guitar for the San Antonio band, The Blue Heelers. The band self-produced and self-released its album Twister which was well received. Thomas recorded his song Truckstop Coffee which appeared on V2’s soundtrack for Niagara, Niagara in 1998.
