Richard Branson was born on 18th July 1950, in Blackheath London. He is the son of Eve Huntley Branson and Edward James Branson. For his education, he went to Scaitcliffe School and Stowe School. While growing up, he was not good at studies but managed to engage people around him in interesting conversations. He decided to drop out of school, realizing it was not the place where he wanted to be.
He began his first record business from the chorus of a church, at the age of 16. He advertised his outstanding records in ‘The Student’ magazine, which even became famous instantly and he soon started trading records under the name, ‘Virgin’.

Mike Oldfield was the first artist on Virgin Records, who recorded the song, ‘Tubular Bells.’ Following Oldfield’s success, many other musical groups signed on with Virgin Records, like the ‘Culture Club,’ ‘Sex Pistols’ and ‘Rolling Stones.’
In 1980, after the great success of Virgin Records, Richard expanded his business by starting his own travel agency, the Voyager Group. Further, adding to his expanding entrepreneurial ventures, he initiated his own airlines’ group, ‘Virgin Atlantic’ and many Virgin megastores after that.
The Virgin group was sold to Thorn EMI for $1 billion because of financial problems in 1992. This torment broke Richard, but he continued in the music business. In 1996, he inaugurated another record company called V2. He has taken many other steps to enhance his business since then, such as the launch of the Virgin Health Bank on 1st February 2007.
Richard Branson was awarded the ISTA Prize by the International Space Transport Association on 14th November 2011 and was lionized by the United Nations Correspondents Association Citizen of the World Award on 7th December 2007.
