Fabares was born on 19th January 1944 in Santa Monica California. She is the daughter of the late James Alan Fabares who died on 10th December 1977, and her mother was Elsa R. Eyler Who died in 1992 after suffering from Alzheimer disease. She is a younger sister to Nanette Smokey. She has an aunt, Nanette Fabray, who was an actress who might be the one who inspired her to her actress career.
