Thomas Edmunds Price was born in Michigan, the United States, on the 8th October 1954. His grandfather and father were doctors. He was brought up in Dearborn, and he attended Adams Jr. High School, and later joined Dearborn High School. When he was just a child, he used to accompany his grandfather on house calls.
Tom went for his higher education at the Michigan University, where he received B.A degree in 1975. He continued with his studies and later in 1979; he received an M.D degree from the same University. He then went to Emory University to complete his orthopedic surgery residency.

Tom Price is a family man. He is married to Elizabeth Betty Price. Betty is also a doctor and a politician as well. The two met in Atlanta while they were both working at Grady Memorial Hospital. The couple is blessed with one child, a son called Robert Price. Tom is a formerly a member of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AASPS).

Tom’s career began immediately after the completion of his studies. In 1984, he decided to enter into private practice. He later in the year 2002, went back to Emory University, where he became the assistant professor in orthopedic surgery.
Price got into politics in 1995. This was after he got an offer from state senator Sallie Newbill to succeed her as she planned to retire. Tom accepted the offer, and he ran for Georgia’s 56th senate district seat. He won by 71-29%, defeating Ellen Milholland who was a Democrat.
He won in 1998 election as well, and for the next two terms, he was unopposed. He was chosen the minority whip at the Senate and later he was elected as the majority leader in the Georgia state senate. He was elected the U.S Representative for Georgia’s 6th congressional district in 2003, after losing his seat at the legislature.
When he was at the Congress, Tom served in different positions until 2016, when he was appointed by president Donald Trump as the secretary of Health and Human Services. He held the position for only seven months, before resigning. His resignation was as a result of a scandal where he was accused of using private and military aircraft unnecessarily.
